Fish Fingers & Baked Custard - Doctor Who

I know what I need! I need... I need... I need... fish fingers and custard!

- The Doctor (Eleventh)

Okay, so this isn't exactly the same fish fingers and custard that the Doctor had, but I wanted to make mine a whole meal in itself - full of goodness to keep you going for that all night Doctor Who marathon you're planning!

(Note: This is a recipe only, sonic screwdriver and lego dalek not included - but they are cool!)

Fish Fingers and Baked Custard from Doctor Who

(Serves 4)

Ingredients:

(for the fish fingers)

  • ½ cup All-Purpose Flour

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 cup Fine Breadcrumbs

  • 1 tsp Minced Garlic

  • 500g Basa Fish Fillets

(for the baked custard)

  • 473g Whipping Cream

  • 5 eggs

  • 200g Sharp Cheddar

  • 200g Spinach

  • A pinch of salt

  • A pinch of Cayenne pepper

Method:

(for the fish fingers)

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a large tray with baking paper.

  2. In three separate bowls, place the flour, beaten egg mix and breadcrumbs along your countertop, creating a kind of production line finishing at the lined tray (trust me - this will come in so helpful!)

  3. Season the flour and breadcrumbs each with a pinch of salt and pepper.

  4. Slice the Basa fillets in half lengthways first, and then along a diagonal angle to get neat, long slices. Rub the minced garlic onto the fish.

  5. Dip each piece of fish into the flour, egg mix, and breadcrumbs in that order, and then line them up neatly on the tray.

  6. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown. These are best served whilst they're still warm.

(for the baked custard)

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C, and butter 4 mini pie dishes.

  2. Boil the cream and then remove it from the heat. Allow it to cool down to room temperature.

  3. Whisk the eggs, and then mix all the ingredients together well.

  4. Pour the custard mix into the buttered dishes. Bake them for 15 to 20 minutes until they're slightly firm to the touch.

  5. Best served whilst still warm.

There you have it! This is an absolutely delicious combination, and a really satisfying meal! It goes perfectly with any Doctor Who theme night, and I can't wait to see pictures from your own Doctor Who parties!!!

As always, if you have any comments, queries or requests, please feel free to message me - I'd love to hear from you!
