Caterpillar Rolls from Harryhausen's

"So, uh... are we going anywhere special tonight?
I-I just got us into a little place called, um... Harryhausen's.
Harryhausen's? But it's impossible to get a reservation there.
Not for Googlie Bear."

~Mike and Celia (Monsters Inc)

So Harryhausen's is the 'it' place - and interestingly enough all the food seems to be a bit of a play on a typical, human, sushi restaurant.

So, in traditional 'me' style I've decided to work my way through the menu - with special thanks to Mike and Sully for holding a private conversation behind one of Harryhausen's own menu's - giving me a nice clear shot of the monstrous cuisine on offer.

So, I've decided to start with a nice and easy dish - Caterpillar Rolls - yum!

Now, obviously this isn't real caterpillar - I may be a stickler for detail but I'm not insane!

So, to simulate the segmented body of a caterpillar I've decided to use Edamame peas in their pods - fried nice and crispy with some sweet chilli and soy sauce - now that's actually yum!

Caterpillar Roll from Harryhausen's

serves: 3

Ingredients:

  • 200g edamame peas in pods

  • 2 Tb toasted sesame oil

  • 3 Tb soy sauce

  • 3 Tb sweet chilli sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

  • 1 green onion - sliced

Method:

  1. Boil the edamame pods in a pot for 5 minutes. Drain and dry the pods with a paper towel.

  2. In a pan over a medium heat, add the oil and coat the pan until it all gets nice and hot. Fry the edamame for approximately five minutes until they start to get a little bit crisp along the edges.

  3. Add the soy sauce and cook until it has half evaporated. Then add in the sweet chilli sauce and green onion and cook for a minute or two longer - until it has all nicely combined.

  4. Scoop into small serving bowls whilst still warm, and sprinkle over the sesame seeds.

  5. Enjoy!

This recipe is so quick and simple that it's just a great movie snack for any impromptu pixar movie night! (And let's be honest - that's the best kind of movie night - right?)

So enjoy, and don't forget to check back here soon for the rest of Harryhausen's menu - and more disney-pixar themed recipes!!!
